Marketing and Community Lead

Incredible Music is a Lagos-based, internationally-focused record label committed to creating high-quality music, treating artists well, working collaboratively with other creatives, and appreciating the fans that support our work.  In addition to working with artists like M.I. Abaga and Loye, Incredible Music also produces The Hip Hop Event and the Incredible Music Festival.

Role Summary

The Marketing & Community Lead is a story-teller and community-builder who cares about the customer and knows how to generate buy-in and build meaningful engagement.  This person thinks outside-the-box about ways to connect the consumer to our offerings, understands consumer psychology and fan conversion, leads innovative marketing campaigns and activations, and stays on top of industry trends and best practices. The ideal candidate will have a mix of content creation and strategic thinking skills as well as a deep understanding of the music industry, strong project management skills, excellent relationship-building skills (both in real life and virtually), and a passion for supporting artists’ growth and success.

  1. Marketing and Promotions
    • Develop and execute marketing and promotions strategies to maximize visibility, growth, and impact of artists and projects
    • Work closely with content and communications teams to creative innovative and engaging campaigns across various platforms and channels; Some content creation work will also be required
    • Identify and develop partnerships with marketing collaborators and help pitch the label and artists where appropriate
    • Collaborate with artists to create compelling artist branding and marketing materials
    • Monitor and analyze marketing and promotional efforts, adjusting strategies as needed
  2. Fan Engagement and Community Building
    • Develop and execute creative engagement tactics and strategies that lead to fan conversion and long-term customer buy-in
    • Manage, moderate, and maintain the Incredible Music Discord channel
    • Engage, comment, and build relationships in virtual spaces on behalf of IM and our artists
    • Grow, write, and maintain a community-focused newsletter
    • Ideate and help execute engaging fan and community experiences, both in real life and virtually
  3. Social Impact
    • Actively create a culture of diversity, inclusion, and equity throughout all Incredible Music projects and activities
    • Cultivate safe and inclusive online communities
    • Work with social impact team to integrate social impact opportunities into all Incredible Music projects and activities
    • Be proactive in learning, unlearning, and thinking critically around social impact issues
    • Act in a way, both privately and publicly, that’s aligned with Incredible Music’s non-oppressive and do-no-harm values
  4. Social Media & Content Creation
    • Create content plans and calendars, and ensure timely posting and engagement across multiple platforms
    • Ideate campaigns and challenges unique to each artist and their respective audiences
    • Create reels, posts, short videos, graphics, and other content when needed
  5. Industry Trends, Insights, and Best Practices
    • Stay updated on latest developments and best practices in the music industry, including marketing techniques, digital tools, and fan engagement practices
    • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to understand and identify opportunities for growth, collaboration, and innovation
    • Keep track of analytics and make recommendations for improvement
    • Identify collaboration, cross-pollination, and other opportunities for the growth of IM, our events, and our artists

Requirements

  • Collaborative, communicative, transparent, with an understanding of generative conflict, organizational development, and co-creation
  • 3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, community-building, virtual storytelling, or other related fields.
  • In-depth knowledge of the new music industry, marketing psychology, audience conversion, social media trends, and generating community buy-in
  • Content creation and management skills, and expert fluency in platforms including Instagram, Canva, Mailchimp, and Discord
  • Nuanced understanding of both the Nigerian and global music industry landscapes, with an ability to bridge the two
  • Ability to turn big ideas into real-life outcomes, with attention to detail, proactive-problem solving, and innovative thinking
  • Exceptional project management, networking, leadership, budgeting, campaign development, and budgeting skills
  • Interest in being part of building something from the ground up

 

This is a full-time position based in Nigeria.  Some travel may be required.  Night and weekend work will be required.
